On 2/1/2019, HRSA awarded $11MM in funding to 120 school-based health centers (SBHC) to increase access to mental health, substance abuse, and childhood obesity-related services in school-based health centers. Funds can be used to improve existing SBHC facilities through minor alteration and renovation activities and/or to purchase equipment, including telehealth equipment. SBHCs are operated in collaboration, in many instances, between a school, school board/district (public entities), and an FQHC. EXEC was responsible for 1 of the 5 awards in Louisiana for our FQHC client, totaling $100K of the state’s total $499,995 in funding. Clearly, mental health services are one of the areas of greatest need relative to SBHCs and specific services provided to SBHCs include them and other services based on community need and collaboration among the parties.
